If you’re old enough, or you’ve suffered emotional struggles or mental health issues you have probably reached the point of knowing the following five lessons:

  1. Knowing the importance of talking to a significant other daily.

  2. Have an enormous appreciation for nature.

  3. You’ve learnt how to be content in your own company.

  4. You realise the benefits of keeping active.

  5. Have an awareness of the need to sacrifice your gains for others.

They are ones I personally carry out and enjoy, or am cultivating (particularly no. 5 at the moment). They can keep your mental and emotional health steady (alongside other tools) and help you grow spiritually. If you’re suffering depression and anxiety they can ease the symptoms. If you’re at a “stuck” point they are a good prompt for action, and best of all - they are free! And lessons that once we’re actively living we can pass on to our children, by simply doing them we are already modelling.

I like checking in with this list above occasionally as a reminder its the simple actions and beautiful, natural, free things that keep life rich and rewarding and me healthy. For further self-development and growth I would also add:

6. Know yourself.

7. Find your life purpose and live it.

What do you think? I hope some of these resonate with you and get you thinking.
